Attend St. Louis' Weekend
at Baskerville Hall
even if you couldn't be there!!
Everyone in attendance at the Westport
Plaza hotel was a descendant of Sir Henry Baskerville! There was
something for every Sherlockian taste ranging from pub chow and
chatter, through delightful Sherlockian whimsy, to learned presentations.
The program even included a serious literary discussion panel
by noted mystery authors John Lutz, Francis Nevins, Jr. and Robert
Randisi. Meet, on these recordings, famous Sherlockians Barb Roscoe,
Jessica Young, Brad Keefauver, Gordon Speck, Joe Eckrich, Greg
Sullivan, Peter Crupe, Roy Pilot, David Hammer, and many others.
Bill Cochran's discourse "Irregular Spirits" on playing the
game is a "must" for every Sherlockian, whether seasoned or
neophyte. Rosemary Michaud's poetry (a toast to The Hound)
and song (Poor Sir Henry) are utter delights. And then
- that great Baskervillian country-western ballad, I Wanna
be the Hound, (adapted from I Wanna be a Dawg, copyright
1998, Werblow, Atkins, & Bryan, Vital Organs Music) should be
in every Sherlockian's music library! The entire weekend was respectfully
dedicated to the memory of that great St. Louis Sherlockian, Art
Schroeder, who died on August 26, 1999 after a protracted illness.

Art's
Audio: "The Double-Good Fortune of Mr. Henry Baker and His Lucky
Goose" and
"The Forgotten Victim" Audio Cassette
The
late Art Schroeder had one of the most creative minds that it
has ever been our pleasure to encounter. He also had a keen, albeit
a tad unusual, sense of humor. In "Mr. Henry Baker and His Lucky
Goose," Mary Schroeder gives a performance worthy of an Academy
Award. Imagine, too - a battered, abandoned safe, once belonging
to Grimesby Roylott, is unearthed and forced opened to reveal
some serpentine remains ("The Forgotten Victim"). Scratched on
the walls is an array of mysterious glyphs, and, therefrom, unfolds
the tragic tale! Mary Schroeder actually tops her performance
as Mrs. Henry Baker in the demanding and sensitive role of the
famous Indian Swamp Adder. Dr. Schroeder is aided by an all-star
cast of eminent Sherlockians! Art's audio "dramas" are delivered
to you on a C-90 audiocassette in a Norelco box. PG rated; Language;
Dr. Watson is predisposed to deliver a few Anglo Saxon expletives.

DESCRIPTION:
"Sherlock Holmes is Dead!" So begins Mr. David Stuart Davies'
marvelous play, "Fixed Point." The Scene: an aging Dr. Watson
is spending his final days in a nursing home confined to a wheelchair.
The Action: Dr. Watson's final remembrances and thoughts as he relates
them to a young newspaper reporter named, appropriately enough, Murray.
Mr. Davies' manuscript originally recorded these final moments, but now,
Mr. Meredith Granger has arranged for us to live those moments along with
Dr. Watson by producing "Fixed Point" as a professional audio
drama! Mr. Granger assembled and directed a collection of fine actors
and actresses at the University of Indianapolis where the drama was actually
performed, recorded, and mixed into this exceptional audio dramatic adaptation
of the original play. Professionally recorded in remarkably vivid stereo,
"Fixed Point The Audio" envelops the listener in both
the environs and the sensations of Dr. Watson's final recollections of
his adventures with Sherlock Holmes. We here at Classic Specialties have
listened to this fine audio drama many times and have never yet finished
it with a dry eye. We urge you not to miss this exceptional production.
Repeated listenings will always reveal some new subtlety which Mr. Granger
has built into the production. "Fixed Point The Audio"
is delivered to you on a standard C-30 audio cassette in hard plastic
box..

SHERLOCK HOLMES
AND THE MARK OF THE BEAST THE AUDIO
ITEM #:Aud/Wey
PRICE: US $28.95
DESCRIPTION: Listening to
Mr. Ronald Weyman narrate his own novel is the next best thing to being
invited into Dr. Watson's sitting room for the spinning of a personal
Holmesian "reminiscence." The Baker Street Journal characterized
this pastiche as "...well-written...engaging...a ripping good yarn."
Mr. Weyman's writing and reading styles preserve a remarkably authentic
"Watsonian" atmosphere. A true-to-type cast of characters, including
sea captains, German agents, colorful French-Canadian and Irish personalities,
and a beautiful woman ("...delicate, sensitive...a creature not of
this world of common mortals.") escort the listener from London,
across the Atlantic on a Cunard liner, up the St. Lawrence to Montreal.
The Mark of the Beast is a spy thriller in which murder, Hiram
Maxim (famous inventor of the machine gun), the Fenians, French-Canadian
separatists, plots against the existence of The Empire, (indeed, against
the very social and political order of the world!), and a variety of historically
and scientifically accurate affairs of the late 19th century are interwoven
into a riveting Sherlock Holmes mystery set during The Great Hiatus. Complete
and unabridged (320 minutes) and delivered in a vinyl storage case with
graphics from the original book.

#: Aud/Magnify PRICE: US $9.95 DESCRIPTION: What did the women in Sherlock Holmes' life really
think of him? Ms. Vanessa Maroney, accomplished Washington, D.C. actress,
performs, for your listening pleasure, Mr. David Stuart Davies' famous
drama, Sherlock through the Magnifying Glass: A Female Perspective.
Ms. Maroney begins with an insightful reading of Ms. Catherine Cooke's
erudite analysis of the relationships between Mr. Holmes and all of the
major canonical women. She then continues by assuming the identities of
Irene Adler; Mary Morstan (Mrs. Watson); the "unknown lady"
(survivor of that dreadful encounter with Charles Augustus Milverton);
and Carrie Trevor, whose association with Mr. Holmes seems to have been
more tender than casual. We would be most astonished if you do not chuckle
at Irene Adler's account of "Scandal in Bohemia," or become
misty-eyed as Carrie Trevor remembers her romance with a young Sherlock
Holmes. Don't miss this remarkable audio drama. There has never been anything
like it in the annals of Sherlockian literature. A single C-65 cassette
with narrative running just a couple of minutes over an hour. Produced
by Classic Specialties.

#: Aud/Golf PRICE: Only $5.00 DESCRIPTION: OK, here's what happened! As part of the entertainment
at CCC '96 up in Door County, WI, Joel Senter wrote a little "radio drama"
which he entitled "The Golf-Stroker's Quirk." The title evolved from the
fact that, as part of the plot, Dr. Watson is invited to the British Open
golf tournament and Mr. Holmes goes along as his caddie. While the famous
pair has been thusly lured out of town (a la "The Stockbroker's Clerk),
a dastardly and nefarious scheme unfolds back in London - and just wait
until you find out who the villain turns out to be! The drama (which is
something of a lampoon of the original Rathbone/Bruce radio broadcasts
of the '30s and '40s) was actually performed live at the meeting with
such well known Sherlockian thespians as David Hammer, the late Bob Hahn,
Jerry Kaufmann, Luci Zahray, Gayle Simnick, and Tom Biblewski in the cast
(SFX by Carolyn Senter and Janet Biblewski; direction by Joel Senter).
Due to a stroke of brilliant planning, the "broadcast" was recorded for
posterity. As a "live" recording, the performance is enhanced by audience
reaction (and some other stuff). We sent copies of the original recording
to the cast (that's all the pay they got), the cast gave the performance
"rave" reviews (what else?), so we thought that others might enjoy this
little journey into the theatrical. We decided to offer it to you at a
bargain price. Although scarcely award theater, the "broadcast" is funny
- particularly the mistakes - and stars prominent Sherlockians (even if
not great actors!!). The "show" runs a little over 1/2 hour. It is a fun
thing!
