The Sherlock Holmes Museum!
Today the building houses The Sherlock Holmes Museum. The building itself is a Georgian town house and was used as a boarding house from 1860 to 1936. This Heritage version, features a Police Constable standing guard outside the front door, the 'Baker Street ' sign to the left side, a hansom cab to the right, and a profile of the great detective himself, wearing his famous deerstalker hat and smoking his pipe, to on the back (shown left above). The Sherlock Holmes Museum measures 13.4cm tall (5.25in) x 4.8cm wide (1.9in). Made to stand alone.

221B Baker Street

Need anymore be said?!

A great small re-creation of the famous address. Nine inches tall, 3.5 inches wide and .75 inches thick - made to function as a most attractive wall plaque in any Sherlockian's favorite "digs."

The ceramic is painted with Holmes playing the violin in the left hand upstairs window and his ‘hubble-bubble’ pipe (gasogene) in the right window. Mrs. Hudson’s drawing room is on the ground floor. There are railings of cast metal and a metal lamp post. This is the first of this ceramic collection to which metalwork has been added!

The Sherlock Holmes Pub

“The Northumberland Arms” was re-named “The Sherlock Holmes." With the help of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s family, the pub was filled with artifacts and period pieces. This model is 6 in high, 3.5 in wide and 1.5 thick. Lamp posts are painted on either side and in the back, to represent an actual pub, empty painted beer barrels are leaning. Like the museum model, this one is designed to stand alone.

ANOTHER TRUE WORK OF ART!
Sherlock Holmes's (as portrayed by Basil Rathbone) Official British Passort!

AN INCREDIBLE GIFT FOR THE SERIOUS SHERLOCKIAN COLLECTOR!
Based on the Paramount Pictures version of Sherlock Holmes, set in the 1940s, this passport replica covers the famous detective's travels through eight different countries.
Authentically reproduced from vintage British passports from the World War II era. The information within is both printed and hand-written. The photograph of Holmes is that of Basil Rathbone, the face of whom has been most commonly associated with the character. The signature is compiled from Mr. Rathbone's own handwriting. Several different amazingly authentic looking visas have been replicated, and affixed to the pastport, to follow Mr. Holmes’s travels through: Sherlock Holmes and the Secret Weapon, Sherlock Holmes in Washington, The Scarlet Claw, Pursuit to Algiers, and Terror by Night with the visas stamped and signed for each of the countries that this Holmes visited in his movies. Each of these passports is hand-made with meticulous care to detail so, please, try to order your passport at least a month before you actually need it. These do take a while to create, but they are worth the wait. A fantastic “bragging item” in any Sherlockian’s collection!
Imported from The Antipodes!

For the Discriminating and Serious Sherlockian Collector!
The Original "Curse of the Baskervilles" Historical Document

"I looked over his shoulder at the yellow paper and the faded script. At the head was written: "Baskerville Hall," and below, in scrawling figures: '1742.' "It appears to be a statement . . .” "Yes, Watson, it is a statement of a certain legend which runs in the Baskerville family."
Now you can actually own a remarkable replica of this very document shown to Sherlock Holmes detailing the legend of the Baskerville curse! Here, reproduced in full, is the tale of the evil Hugo, his diabolical oaths and the “gigantic hound” which his lust loosed upon the quite English moor. This four-page (double-sided) replica is heavily aged by hand to match the appearance of a centuries-old document and is printed from a master which was entirely hand-written using an old-fashioned dip-pen in an historically-accurate 18th century script. An unbelievably authentic looking “ancient document” - the “original” account of The Curse of the Baskervilles!!”
Another true work of art for the Sherlockian Collector!
Notice: This item is hand-made to order. Please allow an extra two to three weeks for delivery!
(Pen is not included.)

Tryon, North Carolina William Gillette/Sherlock Holmes Convention
Commemorative Watercolor
OK, for this one you have to have a little background. The photo at your left is of Morris the Horse. Morris is a landmark in Tryon, NC. You see, Tryon was once the home of a major factory in which toy "hobby horses" were manufactured and Polk County (in which Tryon is located) is still a center for horse farms and lots of equestrian events. Morris was constructed to honor the history of "hobby horse" manufacture as well as the equestrian activities. Morris is a major landmark for the town. If you ask a local person for direstions to almost anywhere in town, they will usually start with, "Well, you go to the horse then . . ."
So, what's that got to do with us? Well, Tryon, NC was once the home of William Gillette, the first actor to portray Sherlock Holmes on the stage. The good folks of Tryon have, over the past few years, held William Gillette/Sherlock Holmes festivals commemorating the great actor and the even greater Detective whom he portrayed theatrically. We recently attended the 2007 event in Tryon and were surprised to find these quite remarkable water color paintings created by professional artist, Paul Koenen, of Saluda, NC to commemorate the first William Gillette/Sherlock Holmes. The graphic is a print of the original pen-and-ink drawing but each of the prints was then hand watercolored by the artist. The painting shows "Sherlock Morris," complete with deerstalker, pipe, and magnifying glass examining "clues" on Baker Street and surrounded by London landmarks. When we were in Tryon for the 2007 Gillette/Holmes gathering, we found that only three of these paintings remained. We bought these last three and now offer them to you. The painting measures 8" by 14" and is matted to 12" by 18" ready for framing. At present, it would appear that the Tryon William Gillette/Sherlock Holmes gatherings are on hiatus. This could be the last memorabilia available for that landmark event.

Colonel Sabastian Moran's Gun Club "Fanny Pack"
Believe it or not, the members of Colonel Sabastian Moran's Gun Club get together, in the environs of Chicago, every February 29 (that's right, every four years) to launch an all-out hunt for Teddy, the mongoose. Now, such hunters clearly need some manner of "haversack" in which they might transport the accouterments necessary to their quest; you know, their mongoose call, mongoose bait, maps, mongoose detectors, and the like. In preparation for their 2004 expedition, the club's management provided the hunters with this sturdy , white, canvas "fanny pack." The club has generously offered a few of their remaing "fanny packs" to the general Sherlockian public as collectors' items. There are two zippered carrying compartments and the "pack" has been silkscreened with the club's official logo. A great attention Sherlockian attention getter with an unblievable, but true, story behind it!

Economy Decorator Poster

Now, here's a decorator item that all your friends aren't going to have on their Sherlockian walls! We were rearranging our inventory a few days ago and came upon a few of these posters that we had actually forgotten about. These were printed by the The Curious Collectors of Baker Street scion to advertise their annual Gasfitter's Ball (remember Mary Sutherland met Hosmer Angel at The Gasfitters Ball in IDEN). The actual poster measures 11 by 17 inches - big enough to be noticed, but not so big as to dominate your space. Printed in two colors, black and blue on white paper stock. Certainly suitable for mounting and/or framing. This is a neat, and unusual, Sherlockian decorator item at a bargain price!

Economy Decorator Poster II

In looking through our stack of posters we located during inventory shuffling, we came across a few of these hidden among the ones shown above. These were produced by The Curious Collectors of Baker Street scion, too, but they have been printed in subtle shades of color which looks very much like each print was hand tiunted. These are very nice decorator items bwith original art having been produced by the well known Sherlockian artist, Chuck Kovacic. The actual poster measures 11 by 17 inches and is quite suitable for framing to beautify the Sherlockian area in your home or office.

Final Problem Art Poster

Fresh from our new Sherlockian artist's fertile brain!

Here we have the struggle at Reichenbach depicted in a new and exciting way. The center image is a full-color photograph of the real Reichenbach Falls superimposed on a map of Switzerland. This central photograph is flanked with the familiar silhouettes of Holmes and Moriarty symbolically striving for the summit of The Falls. The legend names the falls and the canonical case in which it was most important. The entire print has been brought to life by our artist through a genuine 8-color giclée print rendered on archival quality paper with archival quality ink - true gallery quality. The multiple shadings and subtle hues add a remarkable three-dimensional, vividness to the work - the image actually appears to be hovering above the surface of the paper upon which it is printed. Each print measures 13" by 19" and is personally signed by the artist!!

Many Faces of Sherlock Holmes Art Poster

Jeremy Brett! Basil Rathbone! Plus 15 more actors who have played Sherlock Holmes appear to emerge from this amazing, large 13" by 19" art print!

There are several reasons why this art is so special. First, is the content. Shown here are the likenesses of 17 of the actors who have played Holmes on stage, on radio, in the movies and, on TV including our most beloved Jeremy Brett and Basil Rathbone. Next, is the technology which allows us to bring these images to you. The beauty and brilliance of a giclée print is brought to life by our artist and his use of archival quality paper and archival quality ink. The multiple shadings and subtle hues add a remarkable, and almost three-dimensional, vividness to the work. Then there is the price. Through a special arrangement with our artist we are able to bring these amazing prints to you at a more affordable price than one usually finds associated with giclée prints. Imagine the visages of all the theatrical Sherlock Holmeses actually emerging from a convex Victorian mirror and you have an image of what to expect from this magnificent print. The background consists of replicated printings of all the actors' names with one replication for each actor being highlighted in a gold color. It is not possible to describe, fully, with the use of mere words how stunning these prints are. Each print measures 13" by 19" and is personally signed by the artist!! Accompanying each print is a small "key" which identifies each actor by name. This wonderful art could be displayed in your home or your office or, of course, that special Sherlockian room or area.

The 221b Art Poster
The 221b Art Poster is a striking and unprecedented piece of canonical art. The digits of the famous address are outlined on an apparently transparent background “through which” one can see reproductions of some 40 of the drawings by Paget, Steele, and other famous artists, originally used to illustrate the first publications of Mr. Holmes’s cases. The “b” of the address is artistically offset toward center and is done in a shaded red. The background of this 221b print is names of the original 60 stories repeated to form a “wall paper.” The 221b Poster measures 13 by 19 inches and is eminently suited for framing and displaying in your favorite Sherlockian area. This print, as is the case with the two exclusive prints described above, is a genuine 8-color giclée print rendered on archival quality paper with archival quality ink - a true gallery quality work of art!

"All I Need To Know" Art Poster
This is the latest in our "all I need to know" Sherlockian collectibles. This design probably occurred to us because everyone involved here at Classsic Specialties is a retired school teacher. When we think about learning things, we think about classrooms. Our artist (who, BTW, is also a retired school teacher) came up with this really neat design for a collectible art poster in which he has coupled the sage teachings of Mr Sherlock Holmes with a classroom motif via a chalkboard - you can even see the chalk lying in the chalk tray, the eraser, and the eraser smudges on the chalkboard itself. This poster measures 13 by 19 inches, contains 12 well known Sherlockian instructional admonitions and is just right for framing. This poster is also a genuine giclée print rendered on archival quality paper with archival quality ink. It is a great collectible for any Sherlockian, but especially for the teachers and ex-teachers among us. Please Click the image to see a larger view.

Sherlock Holmes's Magnifying Glass
Here is something that our friends in the Sherlock Holmes Community have been asking for for some time. Sherlock Holmes's personal magnifying glass! Of course, we don't have access to the original glass, but this "replica" is a high quality magnifying glass with brass fittings and bearing a decorative handle made of naturally shed deer antler and engraved, in genuine scrimshaw, with Mr Holmes's name and address. A really classy item for any Sherlockian's desk or collection cabinet. These are made to order, so please leave a at least two weeks extra time for delivery.

Genuine Scrimshaw Sherlockian Spring Money Clip
Another great product from Pierce & Co., under special commission from Classic Specialties, is this genuine scrimshaw likeness of Mr. Holmes hand-etched on antler bone and affixed to a shiny brass spring money clip. The spring-loaded clip keeps bills under control in the pocket while the etched likeness of Mr. Holmes provides a most artistic touch to this useful accessory. A peerless and tasteful gift for any Sherlockian this Holiday Season. The Outstanding Gift for the Outstanding Sherlockian!
Genuine Hand-Engraved Scrimshaw Sherlockian Desk Set!
For years we have been seeking a source through which we could bring the art of scrimshaw together with the Sherlockian Community. At last, through special arrangement with Pierce & Co, our quest has come to fruition! The artists at Pierce have engraved, on real deer antler bone (naturally shed antlers, of course) two of Sidney Padget's well known illustrations and fashioned those remarkable pieces of art into the handles of a solid brass letter opener and a powerful magnifying glass. The art on the handle of the letter opener is ". . . for a long time he remained there" from BOSC and on the handle of the magnifying glass, Mr. Holmes "looks over again" Dr. Mortimer's walking stick from HOUN using his own "convex lens." The letter opener and the magnifying glass come boxed in a leatherette covered box with brass fittings and a velveteen lining. Both the letter opener and the glass measure just short of 10 inches and the glass, itself, is 4 inches in diameter. These marvelous pieces are individually and meticulously hand- engraved - this is a painstaking and time intense task, so we do urge you to order early and to be patient with delivery.

Sherlock Holmes Genuine Scrimshaw Pocket Knife

Although this isn't the original jack-knife that Mr. Hollmes used to keep "his unanswered correspondence transfixed . . . into the centre of his wooden mantlepiece" it is one that we think Mr. Holmes would have liked. It has a 4 inch long folding blade, made by Frost Cutlery of surgical steel. The blade locks into place when opened. This is an exceptionally high quality "jack-knife," but, that's not the best part! Imbedded in the stanless steel handle is an insert made of naturally shed deer antler upon which there has been hand engraved a likeness of Mr. Sherlock Holmes in genuine scrimshaw! Since each engraving is actually hand rendered by a scrimshaw artist, no two knives will ever be exactly the alike. This is a really nice gift for the Sherlockian collector. You can be sure that your favorite Sherlockian doesn't already have one of these knives becuase this is the first time they have been offered - anywhere!!! Each of these kinves is custom engraved to order so please allow at least one additional week for delivery.

Genuine Scrimshaw "Gloria Scott" Sailors' Marlin Spike Knife
gloria Scott knife

This "Marlin Spike" knife was especially created for the Sherlockian collector! Genuine scrimshaw engraving of The Gloria Scott under full sail along with the notation of the ship's name and the date of the engraving on the handle of this sailors' "marlin spike" knife. The really sharp blade was used by sailors for the various cutting jobs necessary aboard ship and the "marlin spike" was used in the tying (or untying) nautical knots or for splicing ropes. We won't say that this particular knife was dredged from the remains of the sunken Gloria Scott, but except for the fact that it is new, shiny and really sharp, it could have been. This is a great, and certainly singular, item for any Sherlockian collector. The "bone" handle upon which the scrimshaw art is displayed is made from naturally shed deer antlers, hence, no marine animals were injured (or even annoyed) in this knife's creation.

Sherlock Holmes and the Adventure of the Golfstrokers' Quirk

The performers featured on this CD are more eminent as Sherlockians than as actors (as you will see!) - it is just a bunch of Sherlockians having a great time at a Canonical Convocation and Caper (CCC). What it lacks in the way of professional acting (and that's a lot!), it makes up in pure fun. You'll enjoy it!
OK, here's what happened! As part of the entertainment at a gathering of the Canonical Convocation and Caper (CCC) up in Door County, WI , a little "radio drama," which was entitled "The Golf-Stroker's Quirk," was actually performed. The title evolved from the fact that, as part of the plot, Dr. Watson is invited to the British Open golf tournament and Mr. Holmes goes along as his caddie. While the famous pair has been lured out of town (a la "The Stockbroker's Clerk"), a nefarious scheme unfolds back in London - and just wait until you find out who the villain turns out to be! The drama (which is something of a lampoon of the original Rathbone/Bruce radio broadcasts of the '30s and '40s) was actually performed live, on stage, at the Ephraim, WI city hall with such well known Sherlockian thespians as David Hammer, the late Bob Hahn, Jerry Kaufmann, Luci Zahray, Gayle Simnick, and Tom Biblewski in the cast (SFX by Carolyn
Senter and Janet Biblewski; direction by Joel Senter). Due to a stroke of brilliant planning, the "broadcast" was recorded for posterity. As a live recording, the performance is enhanced by audience reaction (and some other stuff). The "broadcast" is intended to amuse and it stars prominent Sherlockians (if not great actors!!). We have now been able to re-master, and edit the show in its entirity on a modern CD disk!! We'd really like to give this disk to you, we think that every fun-loving Sherlockian ought to have one, but, quite frankly, we are still trying to pay for the audio equipment we bought to make this recording (and some othes that we will be sharing with you shortly). " . . . like the one over the mantle?!"
Reichenbach Falls Print!
We can't count the number of times that we have heard the phrase, "I want a picture like the one over the mantle," from our customers. What they were asking for was a copy of the picture that hung over the fireplace mantle in 221B Baker Street in the Jeremy Brett/Sherlock Holmes TV series. The picture is of the famous Reichenbach Falls in Switzerland where Mr. Holmes and Professor Moriarty engaged in mortal combat. We worked for some time to procure this picture for our customers; and had almost given up finding one that we thought would match our customers quality standards. Now we have finally found a source for a great, computer enhanced reproduction of this original Sidney Paget drawing showing the lone figure of Sherlock Holmes dwarfed by the massive falls where he is soon to encounter the insidious Professor Moriarty! This drawing was originally captioned, in an 1893 issue of The Strand Magazine, "I saw Holmes gazing down at the rush of the waters". This reproduction maintains the "woodcut" charm of the century-old original drawing, but has been computer enhanced to provide the best sharpness and clarity that modern technology can offer. The picture measures approximately 16 by 22 inches and is printed on heavy, high quality, matte finished, coated paper stock. It is ready for framing and hanging over your own mantle or in your favorite Sherlockian area!

Tom Rieschick Original
Sherlockian Prints
!
?

These are the original Rieschick prints done in his remarkable "pointillistic" style - the images are composed of thousands of tiny dots! Mr. Rieschick sold each of his original eight Sherlockian prints singly (at $10.00 each!). He originally created unequal numbers of the prints, so when he bestowed his entire inventory on us, there were, still, unequal numbers of each print. We assembled sets of all eight prints as long as we could and offered them to you as "The Compleat Rieschick Set." Now our inventory of some of the original prints has been exhausted, but we do have a supply of each of four remaining prints. We are calling this set of four prints the "In-compleat Rieschick Sherlockian Print Set" and we can offer these to you at a price lower than EACH of the prints cost originally. Each print measures 8.5 by 11 inches and is eminently suitable for framing.
Nice decorator items; an inexpensive gift.
