A Doylean Thought This Month

"Those who have reached that stage in sweetness and love, who can change their winter into a gentle, Indian summer, have come as victors through the ordeal of life."

Once again, we'd really like to call your attention to our "on demand" manufacturer of Sherlockian items at http://www.cafepress.com/sherlockholmes2. Through the facilities of CafePress we are able to offer a much wider variety of interesting items than we could ever do through our own modest facility. Take a look. It won't take much time and the worst thing that can happen is that you don't see anything you like (but we'd be surprised if that happened!) Thanks.

A New Title from Breese Books!!
Mr. Val Andrews's most recent, and sadly, his last, Sherlockian pastiche!
Sherlock Holmes and the Ghost of Baker Street
Can you imagine what it would be like to be an American emigre, fleeing the unwelcome attentions of Senator Joseph McCarthy, and taking rooms in Baker Street, only to find those chambers haunted by the ghost of Sherlock Holmes? This book offers a fresh view of Sherlock Holmes, a fascinating picture of the British film and television industry in the early 1950s, a portrait of Orson Welles (with whom the author actually worked and knew well), and a clever murder mystery.
Please Click Here

BACK IN STOCK! A FEW COPIES OF Val Andrews's other books:
Sherlock Holmes and the Longacre Vampire
The Torment of Sherlock Holmes
The Houdini Birthright
Sherlock Holmes and the Greyfriar's Mystery
The Man Who Lost Himself
Sherlock Holmes and the Secret Seven

The following three titles are of particular interest since they are created from Mr. Andrews's extensive knowledge of Sherlock Holmes and his long history of theatrical performance both as an actor and a stage magician

Sherlock Holmes at the Varieties
Sherlock Holmes and the Egyptian Hall Adventure
Sherlock Holmes and the Theatre of Death

Please click the titles above for more information.

Copies of American author, Roger Jaynes's, new
Sherlock Holmes and the Chilford Clipper
are again available!

We'd like to call your attention to the Dayton Sherlock Holmes/Arthur Conan Doyle Symposium to be held soon, i.e., March 9 - 11 at Holiday Inn in Miamisburg, OH (suburb of Dayton). Please email Cathy Gill for full particulars. The theme for this year's Symposium is "Food and Drink in the Canon."

We were most saddened to hear of the passing beyond Reichenbach of Dr. Gordon Kelley, a member of The Listeners of the Modern Mazarin Gramophone, and the author of SHERLOCK HOLMES: THE WORLD'S MOST FAMOUS CONSULTING DETECTIVE: BROADCAST AND MOVIE LOG (1991) and SHERLOCK HOLMES: SCREEN AND SOUND GUIDE (1994). It has long been our opinion that Dr. Kelley's Screen and Sound Guide is the best reference book of its kind ever written. We often had the pleasure of crossing paths with Dr. Kelley at both Sherlock Holmes gatherings and Old Time Radio conventions. Our joint interests in both these hobbies led to our frequent communication and, over the years, we came to regard Dr. Kelley as more than fellow Sherlockian and Old Time Radio buff, but as a personal friend. We shall miss him very much. Condolences to his family and other friends.

Congratulations to:
Warren Randall, Dayna McCausland, Mike Homer, Mike Berdan, Maggie Schpak, Mattias Boström, and Elaine McCafferty upon their induction into membership of The Baker Street Irregulars.

Special ordering arrangement; please read the following before viewing the products below
Below we have listed a number of products with prices attached. If you see anything you want to purchase, just email us at <sherlock@sherlock-holmes.com> and tell us what item or items you are interested in. We will, then, post on the internet a page from which the item can be purchased and email you the web address (URL) of that page. This is sort of an unusual way to offer items for sale, but it will give E-Times subscribers first shot at these "limited availability" items. Generally, we only have one of each item, so sale will be on a "first come" basis. BTW, for those of you who don't like to send credit card numbers over the internet (although we have never had a problem personally or with any of our customers) we have a toll free telephone # at 877 233 3823.

Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective Game
A board game produced in the 1980's involving the use of the various items of investigation common to Mr. Holmes's methods (clues, newspaper articles, etc.) to solve various "crimes." Along with the original game, there is an auxiliary set of "crimes" entitled "The Mansion Murders." The packaging has never been opened, but there is a small tear at one end of the shrink wrap and a bit of dust has entered the package and "The Manson Murders" (volume 2) box has one end bent a bit in storage.

Klinger's 3-Volume Annotated Sherlock Holmes - One set available and offered to you, now, actually at our cost !

Here is a collection of Scottish lads resplendent in kilts! This photo was sent to us by our British friend, Hugh Scullion. He said that the photo was made during a school trip to Elstree Studio to see a movie "Mark Sabre" being made. He said that he now has no idea what "Mark Sabre" was about! Hugh also told us about his own "acting career" that began, and ended, at Pinewood Studios when he, and a few of his school chums, were summoned to be in a film called "The Kidnappers" in which two young boys found a baby, kept it, and named it "Rover" because they really wanted a dog. (Honest, this is what he told us.) After rehearsing for three days, Hugh's part wound up on the cutting room floor! Hugh is the second from your right in the back row. Hugh has, subsequently, grown up.

AND!

A couple of really different little items to bemuse and entertain that bibliophile who has everything - including a sense of humor!!

Ace Lacewing, Bug Detective

A sad thing! We were told, by our British friends, that it was three months between the time Val Andrews died and his interment. It seems that no one came forth to claim his body so the governmental agency in charge waited the required period of time before making final formal arrangements. We have not been told as to the actual disposition of Mr. Andrews's mortal remains.
