Thanks to all for suggestions for HOUN graphics for our proposed 2010 Sherlockian calendar. Unfortunately, we still don't have enough to fill 13 pages (12 months and a cover). Would anyone have more really scary drawings (preferably original) of The Hound or, perhaps, photos of pets "disguised" as The Hound?

We still have one copy of Lyndsay Faye's Dust and Shadow in stock. Please CLICK HERE

Peter Blau reported "Edward S. Lauterbach ("Thorneycroft Huxtable, M.A., Ph.D., etc.") died on June 3. He was a professor in the English Department at Purdue University for 34 years, and a long-time member of The Illustrious Clients of Indianapolis. He was a scholar (Sherlockian and otherwise), and a fine poet (he was hailed as the poet laureate of the Baker Street Irregulars); his BAKER STREET BALLADS (1971) offers a fine selection of his work. Ed received his Investiture from the BSI in 1965." We were most distressed to to hear of Dr. Lauterbach's passing beyond Reichenbach for we had enjoyed many interesting conversations with him at meetings of The Illustrious Clients of Indianapolis over the years. One of the fondest memories we have of Dr. Lauterbach was his truly chilling portrayal of Professor Moriarty on the evening that The Illustrious Clients held "the trial of Moriarty." We miss you, learned friend and colleague.

Just yesterday we received this lovely flower arrangement with a note "With many thanks . . ." and signed "Lord Viscount Antony Richards DeRedonda." We were pleased to have been of some small service to His Lordship in the distribution of his book, Midsomer Murders on Location. (Please see below.)

In our recent coverage of The Gathering of Southern Sherlockians V (click here to be reminded), we introduced you to Flat Stanley and Flat Abby. Now, Flat Stanley has been around for a while (click here for info about Flat Stanley), but the young lady on your left, below, decided that she wanted a companion to travel along with her version of Flat Stanley, hence, she has created Flat Abby to accompany Flat Stanley in his odysseys. BTW, did you know that Flat Stanley was on board US Airways Flight 1549 which landed in the Hudson River?!
This is the original Abby, creator of Flat Abby. Abby is the 8-year-old niece of Butch and Debbie Turburt (of The Tropical Deerstalkers), whom we thank for introducing us to Abby, to Flat Abby and for the photos here.

Terri Haugen, via The Sound of the Baskervilles' newsletter, Ineffable Twaddle, that: "Britain’s Big Ben marked its 150th birthday, with a celebration in London on July 11. The booming bell first pealed that same day in 1859—a few weeks after the clock in the famous tower above the Houses of Parliament began keeping time. Ben’s bongs, marking the hour, are a cherished feature of life in The City and are still carried globally by the BBC. The Astronomer Royal, George Airy was appointed to draft a specification for the Palace of Westminster’s clock. One of his requirements was that: 'the first stroke of the hour bell should register the time, correct to within one second per day, and furthermore that it should telegraph its performance twice a day to Greenwich Observatory, where a record would be kept.'

A few ties remain from our recent shipment from the Antipodes!

Jeff Falkingham has asked that we express his thanks to you because, due in no small part to your acceptance of his pastiches, he has been able to contribute $8,200 to the flood relief effort in Browns Valley, and that ". . . the enthusiastic response that 'Caper' and 'Search' have received from Sherlockians has inspired me to begin writing TWO more tales." We'll certainly be looking forward to seeing, and offering to our subscribers, your new pastiches as soon as they are ready - just let us know, Jeff.

From the SOBs Ineffable Twaddle re: The Best of Beatens: "Roger Johnson, Editor of The London Society’s District Messenger, sent a missive to his e-address list titled "I Am an Omnivorous Reader”. In 6 pages of book reviews by Roger and 6 others, our 25th anniversary edition of Beaten’s Christmas Annual got a great review from Audrey Jones, who said—among other glowing remarks—'This compilation by The Sound of the Baskervilles has eclectic charm, wit and tongue-in-cheek humour. A pleasant addition to any Sherlockian bookshelf.'" Our amen to that!!

Recently our supplier in the UK called to advise us that he had found a forgotten supply of this packet of 32 postcard-sized photos of Mr. Jeremy Brett, Mr. David Burke, Mr. Edward Hardwicke, and other stars and scenes taken from the actual set of the famous Granada TV series seen in the US on Public TV and, more recently, on A&E Network. We had these photos for you a few years ago, and were told that the supply had been exhausted. Then, our British supplier informed us that he had an additional supply. We bought all we could afford and, now, we are pleased to again be able to offer them to you again, as many of you requested.
