The Shoso-in Bulletin

The Shoso-in Bulletin has often been called "the most readable Sherlockian journal in print." It boasts contributors from every corner of the Sherlockian world and each issue always has something for everyone - from the most neophytic, to the most advanced, devotee of Sherlock Holmes! On this page we offer the opportunity for you to acquire copies of all remaining issues available. It is possible that these will become real collectors' items in the future for the publisher of The Shoso-in Bulletin, Dr. Yuichi Hirayama, has informed us that issue #13 is the penultimate issue. Dr. Hirayama intends to cease publication of his excellent journal with issue #14. We were personally very distressed to hear of Dr. Hirayama's decision for, with the final edition, the Sherlockian world will lose its most eclectic literary periodical. We do, however, offer our personal thanks to Dr. Hirayama for his tireless efforts in providing our Community with The Shoso-in Bulletin for so many years.

To paraphrase Mr. Holmes, "The Last of a Good Lot!"
Shoso-in Bulletin Vol. 14
In spite of all efforts to keep it alive, the publisher of what we have called "the most readable Sherlockian journal in print today," Hirayma Yuichi, has reluctantly announced the necessity of ceasing publication. Volume #14 will be the last issue. Dr. Hirayama did not print very many of this issue, but we have been able to procure a few copies for our customers. Those of you who know SIB (as we affectionately call it), already appreciate its "something of interest for every Sherlockian reader" contents. No "commercial" necessary! Collectors and "completists" will not want to miss SIB 14. It is the only Volume 14 and it is the lamented last of this noble series of outstanding journals.

Shoso-in Bulletin: Volume 12

Some years ago we described the "Shoso-in Bulletin" as "the most readable Sherlockian journal in publication today." We believe that description to be even more appropriate now. Over the years, Dr. Hirayama has attracted more well known authors to his "stable" of writers but has not neglected the "not yet known" authors--the result is that the catholicity of offerings in SIB12 is greater than ever before. SIB is also the most cosmopolitan Sherlockian journal in print today. Issue #12 boasts contributions from the USA, the UK, Japan, Taiwan, Australia, Sweden, Russia, Germany, and other nations but it is all printed in English. In this issue read: Lighting of Baskerville Hall, The Disappearance of the Cutter Alicia, Sherlock Holmes and the Silver Age Flash, The Strange Persecution of John Vincent Harden, and more than two-dozen other articles, essays, poems, reviews, and pastiches contributed by folks like Stu Shiffman, Ed Letwenko, Robert Lindvall, John Hall, Philip Weller, Mel Hughes, and the multitalented Rosemary Michaud! This is simply a GREAT periodical.

SHOSO-IN BULLETIN: Volume 11

Volume 11 is extraordinary both in size and content. The 226 pages contained in this giant journal are divided into 34 "chapters" contributed by Sherlockians from all over the world. The cover (and other art) was produced by a Brazilian; articles, essays, pastiches, cartoons, and poetry have been contributed by Sherlockians from Japan, the USA, Czechoslovakia, Canada, Spain, Italy, the UK, Taiwan, Russia and Denmark - but all contributions are written in English (thank goodness!). We have described the "Shoso-in Bulletin" as "the most readable Sherlockian journal in print today" and after seeing Volume 11 we are even more convinced that that description is accurate. In the SIB there is always great reading for everyone, from the most critical and erudite Sherlockian to those of us who just want to have fun with our hobby. Don't miss Shoso-in Bulletin number 11! Compiled in Japan from contributors around the world; edited and printed in the USA.

SHOSO-IN BULLETIN: Volume 10

Why should every Sherlockian read The Shoso-in Bulletin?
Actually, there are several reasons, but here are a few
1) It is ". . . the most readable Sherlockian journal in print today." Every issue is filled with entertaining and informative Sherlockian reading.
2) Although each issue boasts contributions from eminent Sherlockians the world over, it is not an elitist journal. The editors' policy is to evaluate each contribution on its merits, not on the prominence of its author. Every contribution is reviewed as a serious candidate for publication, hence, SIB offers a forum to which all Sherlockians (perhaps even you) can have access.
3) Dr. Hirayama Yuichi works most diligently (needless to say, without compensation) to produce an exceptional English language journal each year (even though English is not his first language). We honor and support him in this effort and urge the Sherlockian Community to join us in that support.
We do most cordially invite you to add Shoso-in Bulletin #10 to your collection if you are already a subscriber; if you have not seen SIB before, you are missing a real Sherlockian treat and an opportunity to support a truly dedicated Sherlockian's outstanding efforts.
